Rejuvenating Tourism

12 February 2024

National Geographic has recently published their list of the world's most innovative places that provide a rejuvenating tourism experience.

Among this list is two trails from New Zealand's Great Rides Network, initiated in 2010. In particular, the Whakarewarewa Forest Loop, a beautiful route traversing through native bush and towering California redwoods, offering mountain bikers a chance to admire Māori carvings along the way. Also making the list is the Lake Dunstan Trail, stretching 43 kilometers and guiding riders through the historically significant Cromwell Gorge. This gorge, once a vital pathway for Māori hunters, farmers, and gold miners, now hosts cyclists who can learn about the area's rich history through interpretive signs positioned along the trail.
