Tourism Industry Aotearoa is calling for inclusion of marine and aviation emissions in Aotearoa New Zealand’s 2050 emissions reduction target, in a submission on the Second Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP2).
TIA supports the 2050 net-zero carbon target and New Zealand being active and progressive in reducing emissions that contribute to global warming.
The ERP2 is a critical vehicle for setting out the ambition for a key intermediate period towards 2050, and the plans for doing it. The Plan must be ambitious and specific, and supported in its implementation.
TIA is focussed on the emissions from aviation (and international aviation specifically), and reducing exposure to the significant risk associated with being a long-haul destination and trading partner.
TIA also welcomes the Climate Change Commission’s November 2024 advice to government, which also called for international shipping and aviation to be included in New Zealand’s updated 2050 target.
