TIA recognises the growing impact of climate change, with this manifesting itself particularly through the greater frequency of extreme weather events both in New Zealand and globally, and with more permanent changes emerging over time.
The scenarios and the responses required have been examined in a project undertaken by the Aotearoa Circle, Tourism Sector Climate Change Scenarios and Adaptation Roadmap.
TIA supports this work and will get involved in implementation processes. How we adapt to climate change is one of the key areas where substantial levels of funding will be needed, which forms an important part of TIA’s advocacy for a sustainable funding system for the industry.
TIA anticipates that operators will be impacted at different times depending on the nature of their activities and locations. TIA will act to provide advocacy and practical assistance where it can and will continue to engage in national processes that will advance New Zealand’s overall climate change settings.
