Tourism career perception research

TIA and the People & Skills Forum partnered with Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development in a research project to understand young people’s perceptions of tourism careers.

Released in late August 2018, the findings of the nationwide research responded to a long-standing gap in information about what New Zealanders, particularly young people, think about working in tourism.

More than 1700 young people, parents, teachers, and careers advisors took part in the qualitative and quantitative research.

Insights are being used to develop strategies for industry employers and educators, so that they can attract young people, and effectively retain and develop these young people into sustainable career pathways.

This project received a Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust Grant
